Resources
- Sections
- Reading and Writing, then Math, each split into two equal-length, separately timed modules
- Reading and Writing
- 2 modules × 32 minutes; 27 questions each (25 operational + 2 unscored pretest); 54 total
- Math
- 2 modules × 35 minutes; 22 questions each (20 operational + 2 unscored pretest); 44 total
- Total time
- About 2 hours 14 minutes of testing (64 min R&W + 70 min Math), with a 10-minute break between the sections
- Adaptive
- Module 2 in each section has a mix of questions that is, on average, easier or harder, depending on Module 1 performance
- Order
- R&W questions testing similar skills are grouped together, then arranged easiest to hardest; Math questions run easiest to hardest across each module
- Passages
- A single question per passage (or passage pair); passages come from literature, history/social studies, the humanities and science; some questions include a table or graph
- Math format
- About 30% of Math questions are set in context; multiple choice plus student-produced responses; a built-in Desmos calculator is available for the whole Math section
- Nonadaptive version
- For students approved for certain accommodations (such as paper test forms or a human reader): R&W 2 × 33 questions (39 min each); Math 2 × 27 questions (43 min each)
- Scores
- SAT 400–1600 (sections 200–800); PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 320–1520 (sections 160–760); PSAT 8/9 240–1440 (sections 120–720)

Skills listed are those for the SAT. The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 guides do not list Circles or Evaluating statistical claims. The PSAT 8/9 guide lists this Math domain as Geometry (area and volume; lines, angles and triangles, including right triangles) and does not list trigonometry, circles, inference from sample statistics or evaluating statistical claims. Question distributions are for the adaptive digital tests, across both modules of each section. Summarised from the 2026-27 SAT Suite student guides.
